REVIEW OF:
 "The Deli Creeps"....
Basically a 90s "creep-rock" band headed by brilliant guitarist Brian "Buckethead" Carrol, with "Maximum Bob" Robert Barnum on vocals & rants, and "Pinchface" on drums & a revolving lineup of bass players. One of the creepiest bands of the decade. A band of misfits of sorts, very offbeat & lyrics consisting of murderous themes & horrific stories. Bob professes that they were touring to raise money to open a deli , as they "love meats!". The band typically wore Butchers aprons & Bob used a number of props during live shows. Buckethead always wore a kabuki mask whether playing in the Creeps or in any of his many other musical projects, including stints in Primus & Guns n Roses.
They were rather tongue in cheek, yet at the same time mildly threatening in a silly way. Bob would go on loud manic tangents & rants of wrapping people in barbwire & plugging one end into an electrical socket or plunging his thumb into the "softspot" in a childs head. They, despite the outwardly dark themes maintained a sense of humor yet is appealing to persons who love hard rock & dark themes.
The bands persona is akin to the clan in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or "House of 1000 Corpses" who we could love yet fear at the same time.
Song titles such as "Random Murder" or "Flesh for the Beast" (theme song for the 2003 horror movie of the same name) & "Found Body" drive their creepy point home.
They only managed to release one official album in 2005 titled "Dawn of the Deli Creeps", which was actually recorded in the 90's, though they also have a pair of demos that can be found for those who look diligently.
They are also on the two "Young Buckethead" videos released on DVD's in 2006, which are a treat to those who love the Creeps.
If you are into hard Rock, Flashy guitar riffs & solos & dark themed music, I think you will be pleased by their album & the DVD's, and the Creeps can be a great introduction to Buckethead & his numerous music endeavors.
Also of interest might be his "Cornbugs" band, which is Bucky on guitar, Pinchface on drums & on vocals is Bill "Choptop" Mosely of "Texas Chainsaw.." , "House of 1000 Corpses" & "Devil's Rejects" fame, The Cornbugs are another morbidly funny musical treat, I assure you!
